Dr. Wilde

GroundWork Counseling is not a religious counseling service, but Dr. Wilde is a man of deep religious roots and commitment.  Donald holds a Doctor of Ministry degree from the Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, basically a counseling degree.  His doctoral dissertation was on relapse prevention work with substance abuse clients.  Since 1991, he has been privileged to provide counseling services to the mid-Michigan community.

Donald is a proud member of the American Counseling Association, the American Association of Christian Counselors, and the Batterer Intervention Services Coalition of Michigan among other professional organizations.  He strives to bring to his work the best of research, the deepest of wisdom, and the lessons he has learned from client experiences.  He is not wed to any particular ideology or movement.  However, he will not be shaken from this belief:

There is never, ever an excuse for abuse.

Dr. and Mrs. Wilde live just northwest of Lansing.  Their children and grandchildren mean the world to them and serve as important sources of motivation for Donald's counseling work.  While he cares about the well-being of all citizens, he will admit that harm done to children, directly or indirectly, troubles him especially deeply.  He is determined to contribute to the safety and quality of life in mid-Michigan, albeit mostly behind the scenes.

The Maturity Model

The Maturity Model for Relapse Prevention was developed by Dr. Wilde specifically for the client population that he serves.  Both group and individual work frequently include an emphasis on the notion of maturity.  All adults have areas in their lives wherein they can grow and mature.  By challenging clients to assess themselves in the eight domains of maturity, Dr. Wilde seeks to break through defensiveness and resistance to self-improvement so that clients set for themselves a nobler standard for healthy adult living.  The eight marks of maturity include:

Healthy Growth

Responsible Sexuality

Socialization

Productivity

Nurturing

Critical Thinking

Wisdom

Purposeful Living

A Word to Family and Friends

All of us have failings and short-comings; none of us is without fault.  Then too, the Bible makes it clear that we have all sinned.  We shouldn't be surprised that each of us, clients and non-clients alike, has room to grow into a more mature, more disciplined person.  If you want to encourage a offender, please don't preach at him or her, but rather humbly acknowledge that this goal of greater maturity applies to you, too.

Be assured that each client at GroundWork Counseling has a great opportunity to improve his life.  But, know this too, counseling is no guarantee of improvement for the client, or safety for you or your family.  It would be wise for you and your family to put into place safety measures to help assure physical and psychological safety.  Clients who are sincere in their regrets and sincere in their desire to mature will not have much problem with the rest of the family protecting itself so long as it is done with respect.

Confidentiality standards stipulate that, without written consent of the client, Dr. Wilde cannot talk to anyone about any client’s progress.  If you would like to speak to Dr. Wilde about one of his clients, you need to get written permission from that client prior to contacting the program.
