Assaultive Behaviors
Anger Options © program
Much different than true domestic violence,
non-domestic assaultive behaviors may respond to a shorter program
curriculum, and individual sessions may be useful.
These groups are sometimes known as anger control programs or
anger management.
Domestic violence, directed at a current or ex-intimate partner, is
not a matter of anger control but of partner control.
A good
counselor knows
when to
go easy
and when to get tough.
The Anger Options program is 16 lessons long and is suitable for adults who have assaulted someone other than a family member or partner. The group takes a look at the roots of anger, triggers, increasing tolerance for frustration, anger styles, impulse control, de-escalation skills, appropriate expressions of anger, and alternatives to assaultive behavior.
Individual counseling for assaultive behaviors
might be a good option in some situations.
